Rebecca Stevens – Partner (Insurance) Carter Newell  

   

 

 

Rebecca is a Partner in the Property & Injury Liability team at Carter Newell Lawyers and has more than 28 years of experience defending claims under the Personal Injuries Proceeding Act 2002 (Qld) and the Civil Liability Act and Regulations 2003 (Qld). Rebecca advises on a variety of liability claims for insurers, brokers, claims handlers and corporate self-insureds with high deductibles. She is well known for being commercial and approachable, pro-active in relation to claims management, for ensuring all stakeholders are kept informed of developments, and her ability to achieve early commercial resolution of matters. She was named 2020 Lawyer of the Year – Product Liability Litigation and 2019 Lawyer of the Year Personal Injury Litigation. A past president of the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA), Queensland Chapter, Rebecca was also recently made a Life Member of the association at its 2022 National Conference. Most recently Rebecca was included in Insurance Business Australia’s list of Elite Women 2023. 

 

 Sophie Devitt – Partner (Insurance) DLA Piper

Sophie Devitt is a litigation and regulatory lawyer in the insurance sector. She provides regulatory advice to participants in the financial services industry relating to compliance and risk management issues particularly for general insurers, intermediaries and insurance brokers. Sophie has many years of experience advising those involved in the insurance industry including insurers, intermediaries, brokers and broker associations on issues involving indemnity and policy interpretation. She has also defended a range of professionals in the financial services industry and the property industry and their professional indemnity insurers including insurance brokers, finance brokers, engineers, architects, surveyors and real estate agents. Her litigation practice also includes liability claims, workplace health and safety prosecutions, employment liability and regulatory investigations and prosecutions.  Sophie was Recognised as “Lawyer of the Year” for Insurance Law and Legal Malpractice Litigation in the Brisbane market – Best Lawyers in Australia, 2021

 

Priya Paquet – Partner (Financial Services & Insurance) Hall & Wilcox

Priya is a skilled insurance lawyer with extensive experience in providing advice and acting for insurers in relation to large losses, fraud and indemnity issues. Priya’s experience in general insurance extends to Commercial Business, Contract Works, ISR and Public Liability policies. Priya acts for and advises insurers on policy interpretation, indemnity, property liability and large loss recoveries. She also handles large property damage and liability matters and has expertise in fraud claims and recoveries. Priya is known for her approach in balancing the commercial needs of her clients with the practical realities of litigation. Priya has been recognised by Best Lawyers in Australia – Insurance in 2020-2021 and 2024.

 

Georgina Wong – Partner (Insurance and Workers Compensation) CBP Lawyers

Georgina has been a member of Colin Biggers & Paisley’s insurance team since 2019 and became a partner in 2023. Georgina has over 17 years’ experience in insurance and workplace litigation and focuses on public liability personal injury and workers’ compensation claims. Georgina advises clients on institutional liability, contractual indemnity, dust disease injuries and third-party recovery and has extensive experience in civil litigation, including matters before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission and District and Supreme Courts.
