On 5 August 2016, members and friends of Women in Insurance gathered at the magnificent Rainbow Room at Cloudland for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) Luncheon and Comedy Debate. The day was proudly sponsored by Medilaw.
After AGM business, the audience heard from the charity supported by last year’s Christmas party, Friends with Dignity, a wonderful organisation that helps set up welcoming homes for victims escaping domestic violence.
This years’ debate topic Did God or the Devil create Insurance? attracted some high calibre debaters, who regaled the audience with poems, tall tales, jokes and witty repertoire as they tucked into a delicious two course lunch (the alternate cheese plate drop was a hit sure to be repeated at future events!).
The audience was thoroughly entertained by Hannah Lincoln, Liability Officer of QBE Australia, Damien Van Brunschot, Partner of Kaden Boriss, Alison Haly, Director of Haly & Co and Mitchell Rawlings, Claims Officer of Suncorp on behalf of Our Almighty Lord and Emma Doney, Queensland Manager for YDR Chartered Loss Adjusters, Peter O’Leary, Vice President Casualty & QLD Branch Manager of Liberty International Underwriters, Matthew Hickey, Barrister and Kristin Lloyd, State Claims Manager of Marsh of behalf of the Prince of Darkness. In a controversial decision, the dark side ultimately prevailed on the day, but there was no controversy over the fact that all speakers set a very high bar for next year’s Comedy Debate.
The networking kicked on for several hours afterwards at the Cloudland bar downstairs and proved to be one of the most successful and lauded events held by Women in Insurance. We hope you all can join us next year.
